Dugald River
Dugald River is 100% owned by the MMG Limited and is one of the world’s top 10 zinc operations. The operation is based about 65 kilometres northwest of Cloncurry in Queensland and predominantly produces zinc concentrate, with by-products including lead and silver.
Dugald River ore is mined underground using diamond drilling techniques, after which it is extracted to the surface and treated on-site. Concentrate is then transported to the Port of Townsville via rail departing from Cloncurry. Dugald River is expected to produce around 170,000 – 180,000 tonnes of zinc in zinc concentrate annually.
The operation employs around 500 employees and contractors on a mix of fly-in, fly-out and local residential basis. Around 90% of the employees on site are Australian nationals.
