Dugald River

At A Glance

MMG Limited’s Dugald River mine, 65 kilometers northwest of Cloncurry, Queensland, stands as a significant player in the global zinc market, consistently ranking among the top ten zinc operations worldwide. This underground mine employs diamond drilling techniques to extract ore, which is then processed on-site to yield zinc concentrate, alongside lead and silver by-products. The refined ore is efficiently transported via rail to the port of Townsville for export. With an anticipated annual production capacity of 170,000 to 180,000 tonnes of zinc concentrate, Dugald River contributes substantially to Australia’s mineral output. The mine’s workforce, approximately 500 strong, comprises a mix of fly-in/fly-out and local residential employees, with a strong emphasis on Australian nationals, who constitute roughly 90% of the staff. This blend of operational scale and local employment solidifies Dugald River’s importance to the regional economy.
